How it works

WebP won the web, but not the desktop: right-click-save an image today and there is a
good chance you get a .webp file that your photo frame, printer kiosk, older Photoshop
or company CMS refuses to open. The quickest way out is converting it to JPG — and
that should not require uploading someone’s image to a random server.
Here the conversion happens in your browser: the file is decoded with the reference libwebp decoder compiled to WebAssembly and re-encoded as JPG with a quality you control. The preview shows the actual encoded result and its exact size before you download.
Tip: if the image has transparency (logos, stickers), JPG will flatten it to white — choose WebP to PNG in that case to keep the alpha channel intact.
Frequently asked questions
Why do images I save from websites come down as WebP?
Sites serve WebP because it is roughly 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality, which makes pages faster. Browsers handle it fine — but plenty of desktop software, printer kiosks and upload forms still expect JPG or PNG.
Will converting WebP to JPG reduce the quality?
Slightly, since both formats are lossy and the image is re-encoded. At quality 90 the difference is practically invisible. What you should avoid is converting back and forth repeatedly — keep the JPG as your final copy.
My WebP has a transparent background — what happens to it?
JPG cannot store transparency, so those areas become white in the converted file. If you need the transparency kept, use the WebP to PNG converter instead; PNG preserves the alpha channel exactly.
Can I convert animated WebP files?
Not on this page — animated WebP is a different beast, closer to a video clip. This tool converts still images. For an animation you would need a GIF/video tool rather than a photo converter.
Is anything uploaded while converting?
No. The WebP decoder and the JPG encoder both run as WebAssembly in your tab. Files never cross the network, so private screenshots and documents are safe here.
