JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC · 3 free restorations per day · no sign-up
How it works
- Drop your photo. Drag an old or blurry photo into the area or tap to pick one — JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC.
- AI restoration. The photo is processed transiently by our server AI (GFPGAN) — faces are sharpened and detail is recovered. Nothing is ever stored.
- Compare, download & share. Drag the before/after slider, download the restored photo, or share a before/after comparison image.
Old scans, small crops from group pictures, photos taken on early phones — they all share the same problems: soft faces, faded detail, compression artifacts. This tool runs your photo through GFPGAN, a restoration model built for exactly that. Faces come out sharper, edges cleaner, and the photo looks like a better version of itself — not like a different picture.
Being honest about what it does: it restores, it does not colorize. Black-and-white stays black-and-white, and it will not repaint missing parts of a photo. What it is great at: blurry or low-resolution faces, old prints you scanned or photographed, and pictures that were compressed to death by messengers.
This is the one tool on everyimg Studio that uses server AI — the model is far too large for a browser. Your photo is processed transiently: sent, restored in memory, returned, never stored. You get 3 free restorations per day with no sign-up; after that, credits from the editor keep you going. The result downloads in full quality without any watermark — and if you want to show off the difference, the share button creates a before/after comparison image for you.
Frequently asked questions
How do I restore an old photo?
Drop the photo above and press "Restore photo". The AI model (GFPGAN) sharpens faces, reduces blur and recovers detail. You then get a before/after slider to compare, and can download the result in full quality — no watermark.
Can it fix a blurry face?
Yes — faces are exactly what the model is best at. GFPGAN was trained specifically for face restoration, so slightly blurred, low-resolution or compressed faces come out noticeably sharper. Heavy motion blur or faces that are only a few pixels wide have limits, but typical old scans and small crops improve a lot.
Does it colorize black-and-white photos?
No. This tool restores sharpness and detail but does not invent colors — a black-and-white photo stays black-and-white. If you want to adjust tones or apply a look afterwards, open the result in the editor and use the filter tools.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
Yes — this is the one tool on this site that uses server AI, because the restoration model is too large to run in a browser. Your photo is sent for processing, handled only in memory and never stored; the result is returned straight to your device. Every other tool here runs 100% locally.
How many restorations are free?
You get 3 free restorations per day per device, no account needed. If you need more on the same day, you can buy credits in the editor — they stay on your device, still without an account.
Which files work, and is there a size limit?
JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC (iPhone) photos work. Very large photos are automatically downscaled to 1600 px on the longest edge before restoration — that is the sweet spot for the model and keeps the upload under the 4 MB limit.
